Beginning of March

Today, was a pretty laid back day. Just relaxed a bit, well to be honest, a lot. And since it is the beginning of the month, that means new magazines and fresh ideas for spring!
Just looking at all of the fashion for spring, made me want the seasons to change so badly. I can't wait to just be able to sit outside and enjoy the warm breeze. If it weren't for my incessant laziness today, I would have ventured outside just for a walk, but I guess I'll just have to save that for another day.
Also, I realized today how much I want to go biking. For a couple years now my bike has been stashed away in our shed, rusting with two flat tires and no hope for a new life :[ So one of the top things on my list to get this spring is a new bike, preferably one with a basket (hey it could come in handy).
Anyway, I just wanted to give a quick update before bed and clue you in on what's coming soon.
Hopefully some time this week I'll be able to post some of my favorite looks for this season and some great recipes that are perfect for this time of year (or well, anytime really). So keep checking back!

P.S. Spring also means the beginning of baseball season! Ahh, I'm so pumped! With Halladay on the mound and our pretty amazing line up this season's definitely gonna be a great one! Go Philliessss!!

Come on, you gotta love 'em :]

Raw, True Emotion

Tonight I had the opportunity to observe an AA meeting (as a school assignment), and I have to say it was an amazing experience. Upon first arriving I was a little nervous and felt out of place, but within the first five minutes I felt completely comfortable.
There were 16 women in the room, and as they went through their anniversaries, I was truly inspired. One woman had reached one year of sobriety today, and the joy in the room was so overwhelming. There was so much genuine caring and love among the women that just made me feel so happy and lucky to witness it.
At today’s meeting they discussed Step 3: the willingness to surrender oneself to a “Higher Power.” After we read about the step, each woman shared her own story with complete honesty, speaking directly from the heart without worrying about what others would think. Their stories opened my eyes to the true struggles of alcoholism and addiction, and I am grateful for what I have learned.
The most shocking part of this entire experience for me was actually the appearance of these women. Society has sort of portrayed alcoholics and addicts almost as “untouchables,” and what I realized today was just how normal these women are. Some of them were only a few years older than me, and others could be my mother, my aunt, or my grandmother. I realized that the taboos associated with those struggling with addiction are harsh and untrue.
These women were so kind, open and accepting. It’s hard to hear that anyone would judge them because of their struggles with addiction, because they are all such good people.
I witnessed such true, raw emotion from these women. The pain and heartbreak they've had to deal with is something most people couldn't even fathom how to handle. These women have been through it, and have come out survivors in my book.
This experience has inspired me to never judge someone based on their past or struggles. If someone is willing to better themselves, they deserve all of the respect in the world.

Is it better to let others see your faults, or hide them in fear of what they might think?

Beauty is not caused. It is. - Emily Dickinson

Beauty is all about what is within yourself. Beauty is not a size. It is not a certain look. It is not symmetrical. It is not something that others can define for you.
Beauty is the willingness to show all that you are to the world, without doubts or worries.
Beauty is having the ability to stand strong despite the daily pressures that society places on you.
Beauty is believing in yourself.

Today as I was watching The Oprah Show I heard guest Jessica Simpson speaking about the media's bombardment in her personal life, specifically her fluctuating weight. She is a size 4, and the media called her fat. I don't care what size you are, because it does not define who you are. Size is only a number. What matters is that people start realizing that they are beautiful despite what the media says is the "right" or the "perfect" size. No such thing exists.

No matter what color your skin is, what size you are, what age you are, what hair color you have...you are beautiful as long as you are willing to believe in yourself.

These women are beautiful, because they have the confidence to be who they are despite society's pressures.

These are women to admire.

Advice of the day: Stop worrying about what others think about you. You are beautiful, and to see it all you have to do is believe in yourself.

What do you think about beauty?

hello bloggers

After two three four failed attempts at starting my own blog I have finally decided to commit. Just a bit about myself: I am an eighteen year old self-declared lover of scarves and hot lemon water. I'm a girl in progress, just trying to explore life and discovering all that there is to love (and hate) about it, and I plan on sharing my thoughts in this blog. I hope my quirky questions, inspirations, revelations, and just chaotic rants about life and its many twists and turns will keep you interested. So keep checking back.
